I’m trying to figure out if I can do a straight record to computer/hard drive out of the HPX-3000 to a AJA IoHD or Kona3 card. I had no problem recording 1080i 29.97 but didn’t seem to be able to figure our how to capture 23.98, not even sure if that is possible. The one problem is I only rent the cameras so I don’t have access to them to try a lot of things, I can try things at the rental house when they have time but I really don’t operate the cameras so it is hit and miss. Can this even be done, if yes any guidance on settings.

The 3000 only outputs 29.97 (23.98 with pulldown) via HDSDI. Now, AJA recently released new drives for rmoving pulldown on captures to go from 29.97 to 23.98, but the HDSDI stream has to send the right information (rp188 info). That being said, I don’t think the 3000 sends rp188 when shooting 1080p24 with pulldown. I don’t know why the 3000 (and the 2000 for that matter) don’t output 1080psf23.98 on the HDSDI. Must have to do with how the image is scanned originally.

That is a shame, I’m pretty sure some of the Sony Hi-end cameras will send a true 23.98 frame rate, since there decks record that frame-rate. I think manufactures need to think out side there closed systems to make there products fit into different workflows.
