Thanks to Gary and Sean for your guidance from the 16mm film transfer thread below. I think it is sinking in. I’m afraid I hijacked original topic (apologies to David Jones), hence the new topic here… archiving raw P2 media shot at 23.98 which I have laid off to DVCProHD tape on the AJ1400.

Upon recapturing a clip from this archive tape at the 59.94 frame rate (ProRes 422), then laying that clip into a ProRes 23.98 timeline gives me a perfect 1 to 1 frame rate like the original P2 version of the clip did. Great, – except – It has to be rendered (pretty sure all clip and seq settings are the same). It has a (2:3:2:3) cadence in the viewer, but while stepping through it in the timeline, it is a perfect 1:1 even before being rendered. Do I need to perform some other voodoo on it to make it play without rendering (can Cinema tools reverse telecine 59.94 clips?). Simply exporting to QT from the viewer results in a 59.94 clip and exporting from the 23.98 timeline results in a 23.98 clip in QT (as expected).

Capturing any of this archive material at any of the 720p 23.98 rates/flavors gives strange results (slomo playback of the clip that doesn’t reflect the time portion of the clip that the capture window was showing me during capture). which may be an ioHD issue.

    Does this all make sense?

    Dual 3Gb Mac Pro Intel 8 Core, 5GB RAM, OS 10.4.11, QT 7.3, FCP2 6.0.2, CS3, AJA ioHD
