I have a great shot of a giant wave crashing in front of a stunning sunset….the problem is that I shot it in 24p and it looks jerky. The video was shot with with a HVX200 P2 camera DVCPro HD at 24pn (23.98). Any suggestions for how to smooth this shot out would be appreciated.

Looks jerky when viewed how? Without telling us exactly what type of monitor, what type of video card, what playback settings you’re using no one can offer you educated assistance.

One thing to keep in mind is, many monitor do not not support 24fps playback and so playback settings on many cards such as BM and KOna need to be set to 29.97 to provide smooth playback.

    What format is your timeline?

If you want to recreate an interlaced look with progressive material, get revisionfx fields kit.

I’m viewing the video on a Apple 24 inch monitor…the timeline is set to 23.98. I’ll soon be upgrading the system to handle HDCAM via a Kona 3 Card, but currently I’m running a standard def configuration. I’m assuming when I add the Kona Card I’ll be able to cross convert the 23.98 footage to a 29.97 rate and therefore hopefully smooth out the playback issue?

NEVER judge the quality of your image based on what you see on your COMPUTER monitor. That is a low res proxie and may show things that aren’t really there. When you get the Kona and the ability to view this footage on an external monitor, THEN you’ll see what you really have.

    Shane,

Thanks for the information, I’ll view the footage via my HD monitor once I get the Kona 3 card insalled. Out of curiosity…….do you think a cross convert to 29.97 via the Kona 3 card or using the revisionfx effect would minimize the motion artifact? At the time I was shooting the footage I was going for a film look, but I think the next time I get the opportunity I will overcrank or at the very least shoot 30p.
