I feel as if I’m very close to solving my problem. Thanks for your help so far – Just need a wee bit more.

I have a Pro Res clip that is 23.98 fps,. When I play this clip in the Browser, it stutters. When I drop the clip into a blank sequence and let FCP create the sequence settings it creates a Timebase of 24 (not 23.98 which is the fps of the clip) and, logically, the clip still stutters.

BUT when I change the Timebase in audio/video setting to 23.98 and force the clip to accept that sequence setting, it plays fine- NO stuttering. Unfortunately, though, at the 23.98 sequence frame rate it won’t match back and if I make a quicktime it does not represent the sequence.

Can someone please explain what is going on? Is there some setting in FCP that instructs a clip in the Browser to play at a certain frame rate? How can I get my clip to play at 23.98 in the Browser as well as the timeline?

    THANK YOU ALL

Open the clip in Cinema Tools and conform it to 23.98, if you are certain that’s what it is. It won’t actually do anything to the clip other than fix whatever bad frame rate metadata that’s causing FCP to use the wrong frame rate.

John Pale, I bow down to you, can’t tell you how long I’ve struggled with and asked “gurus” about this issue and you solved it so quickly!
By your picture I’m not sure if you’re a cow or a woman serving coffee but you’re ACES in my book.
    Really appreciate it.
