23.98 fps to 24 fps export
Hi all,
I exported a .mov file through quicktime with setting of 24 fps (the original resource is 23.98 fps) and expected the final file a bit shorter than the original timeline sequence on FCP. But the exported file is actually longer (6 seconds longer for a 100 minute movie) – does that make sense at all?

It’ll be longer. You are taking something that runs slower than 24fps, and slightly speeding it up to exactly 24fps…stretching it. Time will be added.

When you say: speeding up- shouldn’t it be faster, which results in a shorter product?

It is so strange. Maybe I calculated the timeline sequence wrong?
The FCP 7timeline sequence I used to export the quicktime is from timecode (read on Canvas) 00:59:20:00 to 2:36:00:04. I check the sequence setting and it did say editing timebase 23.98.

Thanks Dave, I haven’t tried your method yet. But now that I thought I have a longer running time exported .mov 24fps file but it is not true. My final file, based on DCP making company, is 23.98 fps! how could this happen? – I exported using quick time with setting of apple pro res 422 24p 48Khz. or maybe this 24 p means 23.98?

What’s the precise way to see the fps at timeline sequence on fcp?
I checked the sequence setting – not correct?
