23.98 for Broadcast, Timecode question
Hello,
I’m cutting a half-hour piece for broadcast that was shot at 23.98 (Varicam 720p24). Obviously, the running time is important and, since 23.98 is NDF only, I’m not getting an accurate read on my running time. Has anybody used this workflow before and come up with a method to find their exact running time? I’m aiming to hit 26:46;00, which I believe means I need to cut to 26:44:09.

That’s a very helpful solution to an annoying problem. There really ought to be a toggle in Final Cut to get an accurate running time. I guess a suggestion to Apple is in order.
Last night, I wrote a very basic widget that attempts to calculate accurate time from 23.98 NDF TC. I’m still not 100% sure that it’s accurate, but it’s a start. Feel free to check it out: http://www.davidheidelberger.com/software.html
