  23.98 footage into FCP

  I am loading some 23.98 footage via HDSDI and rs422 into a 1080p 23.98 Prores project using the 1400 deck set at 23.98. It comes in looking fine, no duplicate frames – but the TC in FCP is in 29.97, with skipping numbers. I was using the panasonic VFR 59.97 device control. I tested with a reconform and sure enough, it did not come in frame accurate. I then switched to Sony 23.98 device control and all the clips came in frame accurate, and a reconform worked great. Is this the norm? Why no 23.98 device control for Panasonic or am I missing something? And will I be OK using the Sony protocal – all seems fine!

  And am I correct using a 1080p VFR 23.98 project or should I be using 1080 psf 23.98? I have cross-posted into the FCP forum as well.
