I am about to undertake a project in which we will be shooting on the Panasonic HDX-900 camera at 1080p 23.98. I plan on using either the AG 1200 or the AG 1400 Panasonic DVCPRO HD Deck. I will be editing on Final Cut Pro 5.1.4. What are the specific settings I need to use on the camera and for my capture settings. I am counting on being able to digitize this footage using the firewire connection. Is there an automated setting in which FCP will automatically remove the proper pulldown frames and leave me with true 23.98 footage from the camera?

I want to use the firewire connection so as not to tie up one of the 2 Kona 3 systems I have. Worst case scenario though I could use a system that has HD SDI input and RS-422 control.

What I am looking for here is the proper way to get 23.98 footage from the HDX-900 camera into FCP 5.1.4. Any input on the settings I should use would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

i shot a feature with that same rig. i used 6.0 and had no issues to report of. my system is up to date quad g5 with 6 gigs of ram.

for capture there is a DVCPRO HD 1080 setting to use and then select the 1080 24p under the next drop down, pretty simple

i remember having to tweak an issue with frames repeating and creating a horrible look when the camera panned – i forgot the specific setting, but basicly the end product had filed the 29.97 product with repeat frames.

haha, during capture – the local panavision plus 8 here in houston said “good luck with that ” as they didnt have the systems for the 1080×1920 image i was working with

i had hell with some of the externals when it came to capturing / mastering. I used 3 lacie 2tb drives dasie chained on fw800. in the begining captures looked fine, and then i would get drop out and sync isues later. (we capped 99 tapes)

i beefed up the internal hd to 4tb and would capture and transfer at night.

during extended captures, give your hoss a break to prevent errors from overheating.

hmmm other advice? shoot me an email if you want some screen shots of the settings

Thanks for the info. So Just to be clear, I set the camera to 1080 24p and in FCP I use the DVCPRO HD 1080 24p setting and check the, remove pulldown. Or should the camera be on the 1080 24pA setting and then in FCP select the 1080pA24 setup? Thanks again.
