I have a project at 23.98 and want to make a 29.97 composer dub. BUt everytime i lay off to a mini dv tape it seems that the audio is drifting. and lines are looking rubbery at times. I s this because of the conversion FCP is doing or is there something i am doing wrong? Is there a way I can create an accurate 29.97 dub of my project. It is a feature length. what are people doing with projects edited in 23.98? Thank you for your time.

    Peter,
What I have been doing is this: I have a Kona card that will do the conversion on the fly. I lay off via Edit to tape, I have a sony dsr 1800. I use a usb serial keyspan for device control and output video and sound via sdi. It has been flawless for the the 20 reels I have done. When I laid off via firewire my audio would drift because of the mismatch frame rate.
But for your composer, you should just export a motion jpeg QT from your 23.98 project. Export @ 29.97 for his Protools session. Put a 29.97 window burn for reference.
If he is protools illiterate, export each reel to DVD with a window burn, so you can bypass the lay off. You can take that to a dub house to make 3/4″ tapes if needed.
This is just my experience and this has worked for me.
    Good luck
    Anthony
