23.976 vs 23.970 on Black Magic Capture Card
I’m capturing 720p 24 DVC Pro HD in Final Cut 6. Everything I’m capturing is going to be strung out in FCP and then exported to AE CS3 for motion graphics work.
I have two options to capture, but both seem to be problematic. Over Firewire, my captured clips are out of sync by a frame or two in Final Cut, but play fine in AE. Using my Blackmagic cards’ DVC PRO HD 23.98 setting over SDI, everything comes in to Final Cut and plays fine, but AE recognizes the frame rate as 23.970 and not 23.976. Is this an issue? Should I manually change the frame rate in AE?
Final Cut says the Frame Rate for both the FireWire and SDI is 23.98. Am I missing something here?

Not sure about the 23.97. 23.98 is short hand for 23.976. You’ll see 23.98 and 23.976 used interchangeably.

Final Cut was showing both the SDI and Firewire video at 23.98 (which I assumed was 23.976), but in AE the Blackmagic SDI footage shows up as 23.970. Isn’t that weird?

It is wierd. I just tried importing a 23.976 clip into AE and that’s how it showed up. The clip was transferred from a P2 card, not captured. Try calling Blackmagic Tech Spt and see what they suggest. Or post on the Blackmagic Forum. https://forums.creativecow.net/forum/blackmagicdesigndecklink
