23.976 project’s available frame rate for export only 24fps. No 23.976.
Hello,
actually the title says it all. I have a 1080p 23.976 project. When i try to export, there is no 23.976 frame rate to select. Only 24fps. I am fairly new to avid, so probably i miss something.

Exporting what as what? That would help.

Exporting a 1080p 23.976 sequense to an avi file (1080p, 23.976, lagarith codec) as a master.

And in what window are you seeing this frame rate selection? If you export “same as source” or QuickTime Reference, it will show as 23.976 or 23.98. You can encode from there you whatever codec you need to. Are you seeing 24.000 as the only choice when going to AVI or any codec?

Actually, the final output has to be mp4, h.264 for web. So, i use handbreak to convert avid’s output. Handbreak does not recognize qt reference. In the image below, you can see the choices i have.

I wouldn’t use Handbrake for these types of workflows. If you’re not using the Sorenson Squeeze that comes with every Media Composer license, I would suggest MPEG Streamclip. It will take a QT reference and has lots of control over codecs and parameters.

Despite the current situation, why i don’t have an option for 23.976 export?

Because Handbrake doesn’t make a differentiation between 24.000 and 23.976. Many consumer type apps will list 24 as most consumers don’t realize it’s really 23.976, 29,97, etc.

I meant an option of 23.976 in the avid’s export dialog. Handbreak has the option of 23.976.

That menu most likely exposes what AVI expect to see and is not defined as the export. What do you get when you open up “options”. And again, I would never export anything directly out of MC myself as it just uses the generic tools presented by the codec providers. I still would recommend a QT Refernce to Sorenson, MPEG Streamclip, FFMPEG, Adobe, most anything will be better with more control. And if you are eventually going to H.264, why are you even involving AVI – just go to QuickTime export and use its generic setting to go to H.264 directly.
