I have a short clip which consists of a fast animation composited onto some stock footage that is 24p. I would like to add it to my demo reel which is 29.97 NTSC. As you probably know, the clip plays faster when added to a 29.97 timeline. Slowing it down and using Pixel Motion produces ugly frames. Adding pulldown in the Render Settings also gives me bad frames with that stair-step pattern. What other methods could I try?

You’ve exhausted your options: conform, convert, and pull-down.

If you’re not happy with conforming (playing back at a different rate) or adding pull-down, you have to revisit converting. Depending on the footage, you may have better luck tweaking the motion estimation settings with Timewarp, or using some of the advanced retiming guidance options in Twixtor Pro.

Chris Wright has written some excellent posts on retiming here; I’d suggest you could start by searching for his posts.
