2:37:1 aspect ratio for 4:3 Standard Def TV in compressor and dvd studio pro
This question may be miscategorized but I couldn’t find Apple Compressor, so I put it here because compressor is part of FCP.
My quesiton is:What are the settings that I use to get 2:35:7 aspect ratio to display correctly on a 4:3 standard def television being played on a dvd which was created in compressor/dvd studio pro? The two settings that I can’t figure out in Compressor are.
In the main BATCH window there is a drop down menu under the setting tab. Which one do I use there?
THEN. In the “inspector” window and the “geometry” tab I have the option of choosing my frame size, pixel aspect and Constrain to display aspect.
I know these are newbie questions… I’m in a pinch trying to get a 10 minute piece successfully burned to dvd in the right dimensions.

Do you mean 2.35:1(not 7) that being a ‘deep’ letterbox?

Well the footage was originally shot on the Viper Filmstream and I’ve been told that the aspect ratio as not 2:35:1 but instead it’s 2:37:1.
It seems like the two aspect ratios are very close. Anyone? -

A track on a DVD can only have one of two aspect ratios- 1.33 (4X3) or 1.78 (16X9). You’ll have to letter box your 2.37 footage within one of those formats. Personally, I’d go with the 1.78 & then set up the DVD to force letterboxing on 4X3 TVs. If you go with the 1.33, and it’s played on a widescreen TV, you could wind up with a letterbox inside of a pillar box.

sounds great! Now if I could only figure out how to make that happen. Letterbox is fine (as long as the picture looks normal).
I’ll paypal someone $25 bucks if they’ll take 15 minutes to spell it out in GREAT detail so once i’m in Compressor I can follow your instructions like A,B,C School. I know this might sound a little nuts, but I can’t seem to figure out how to make this picture look right.
