Hey there… I had seen a video suggesting that you should just put “0” in the dynamic RAM setting as it could slow things down etc. Rendering has been very slow.

I have 64 GB of RAM so I thought I might try putting in a higher number. I put in 20 000 and it totally sped up render time on a 4K file.

My question is this: In preferences/video, it says I can use up to 32 000. Assuming that is half my RAM (64 GB) can that be increased? Or can I put a larger number? I don’t wanna mess anything up, so I thought I’d ask the pros…

    Thanks!

Yeah, this is a complex pool to swim about in. Increasing the RAM setting is for extending the the length of the video in Build RAM Preview.

When you say Render time “sped up”, do you mean the Render time was REDUCED?

    What render Template?

Did you have GPU Acceleration switched ON?

What GPU do you run and how much GPU RAM do you have on it?

You’ve dipped your toes into a waters that can run hot and cold.

Ha! Yes, I guess I have dipped the old toes!

Render time, way reduced, yes! First time ever!

Template started as MainConcept Internet 4K 2160p but I increased maximum bit depth to 100,000,000 and minimum to 50,000,000

Rendered using CUDA. (Check GPU said CUDA available)

    Render quality: best

    RAM: 30000 (max avail: 32768)

    NVIDIA Quadro P4000

I have about 16 different 4 K videos all coming in and out with processing and fades etc.

Render time on the 5 minute piece went from almost 3 hours to just over 40 minutes.

My question was asking why the dynamic RAM only reports I can use half my RAM?

I want more MORE MORE! lol

“Yah want MORE, yah just can’t HANDLE more!!” Badly miss-quoting Jack Nico in Few Good Men.

Hey Graham, I was still puzzled by why Vegas only shows half my ram is available. It shows 32 GB and I have 64.

Might there be a setting to allow me to use more of my actual RAM?

    Perhaps its a vegas limitation.

Put in 48000 and see how your system responds. Perhaps vegas will just say, “No, that’s too much.”

When I read your 64 GB of ram along with what vegas was offering you, my suspicions of it being a vegas limitation seemed supported.

Curious as to what 48000 would do… 32 Gb here.
