October 27, 2005 at 8:10 pm20 meters?!?!?! Where the hell did you even find such a cable? You can’t have a firewire cable longer than 14-15 feet. You would need repeaters of some kind to boost the signal every 15 feet….
whos bright idea was that?

October 27, 2005 at 8:36 pmthe 10m works on another station so I’m going to try a repeater

October 27, 2005 at 8:37 pmEven with repeaters – which are readily available – I would not extend a FW signal that far. Extend the tie lines instead [AES, SDI, CV, RS-422, Componenet Video, etc.]

October 27, 2005 at 10:12 pmSteve is correct – and if you dont’ want to extend the audio/video lines, get a Gefen CAT 5 5000 HD, and use 4 CAT 5 lines to extend the keyboard, mouse and monitors to the CPU that will live 3′ away from your I/O box (and VTR’s). You room will become
very quiet.Bob Zelin
