haha. It would be an overclocked and heavily discounted CPU.

Well I had to take that into consideration.
What good is all that if the thing sits there like a brick?”We all do, this is why MP 2013 is such a mess. A brick once your GPU overheats.
That said, we had nothing but an incredible experience with the HP z series, most have been stable and durable. And those that were less than perfect, HP’s incredible warranty and support took care of it.

I am finding that the dozen lot we purchased back in 2013 had no issues like others have.
Trust me, I have friends here that wanted to throw that unit into the river due to the heating issues.Oh and I just sent an HP Z240 to get the TB2 card installed (for the third time).
My corp relies on HPs but mostly at the office level.
The ones I have are an anomaly here and the IT department loves checking out the uber-expensive video cards I get to pick ☺
Maybe it’s the Z240 but I also have the same issue with a clients 840 ☹
They just don’t handle TB2 😛 -

I’m running an 8-core with Dual D500s. The main issues I see are some glitches from time to time in Adobe (AME, AE, PPro) or Resolve renders. Usually when rendering at 4K or larger. I’m running Macs Fan Control to crank the fan speed up to full. However, I have never had glitches out of FCPX or Compressor. So Apple definitely did a better job of optimizing its software to this particular configuration.

We have 8 D500s but mostly for Motion/Print graphics.
The D700s are for heavy lifting in AE, Premiere, Avid, ProTools, Resolve and FCPX.
The day job is corporate so nothing close to what I do at home.
My D700 at home renders non-stop and have had it shut down on me a few thousand times.
They all went through the basic issues with Premiere and AE, but can’t confirm if it was thermal since it has gone away after updating.
Again we were lucky compared to some folks around my parts. -

November 11, 2019 at 5:23 pmThe issue affected dual D700 configurations only AFAIK. We only have dual D700 in our facility. We have several dozens. And at least 6-8 of them have exhibited the issue.
The issue is well documented and Apple even ran a repair program.
https://www.macrumors.com/2016/02/06/late-2013-mac-pro-video-issues-repair-program/Though the issue supposedly affected MPs manufactured between “February 8, 2015, and April 11, 2015” there have been reports of issue outside of that range, including some of ours.

We purchased right at the start of 2013.
The latest was from June 2013.
I know we got lucky, cause local colleagues had to visit my office to check on why ours wasn’t freaking out.
