$200 Kodak Zi8 and Vegas Movie Studio HD
Hi everyone. I thought I’d share this demo of Kodak’s little Zi8 pocket camcorder. Video was captured at a frame rate of 30fps and at a resolution of 720p HD. The Kodak captures to SDHC card in QuickTime mp4. I initially had 2 issues when importing media into Vegas Movie Studio: 1) sound, but no video– SOLUTION FOUND ON NET; I had to roll back the version number of QuickTime installed on my PC to Ver. 7.6 and 2.) audio out of sync with media imported into Vegas Movie Studio– SOLUTION ALSO FOUND ON NET; I needed to convert the files using Kodak’s supplied ArcSoft Media Impressions software to what they call: Kodak Home Theatre (yet, another flavor of mpeg4, maybe?).
Those steps taken, the media imported into Vegas Movie Studio with audio and video properly synchronized. To my eye, the media appeared to be oversaturated (in color) and too high in contrast. In editing, I reduced saturation and contrast. Here’s the finished demo:

I plan on using this demo 2 ways:
1.) In ‘diplomatic’ discussions with prospects who seem to be insistent upon shooting their own video with such a camera… and turning their media over to me for post work.
2.) As half of an apples-to-apples video-and-audio comparison between pocket camcorders and the Canon AVCHD camera I customarily shoot with (an issue that, again, has come up in pre-production meetings).Best wishes,

Hi,
I still have a problem after converting file with ArcSoft Media Impression:
once the .mp4 file put on the timeline of Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 (trial version), I have an error message and Sony Vegas turns off.This error message mentions qt7plug.dll
I then followed the advice of this post: replace the original .dll by a new one.
Now I don’t have the error message in Sony Vegas anymore…but the video either (audio only).

@ Romain– I still get white knuckles thinking about what a pain it was to get files shot w/ the Kodak Zi8 to ‘play nice’ with Vegas Movie Studio HD. I’m not a techie so all I can do for you is repeat the process I found on the net.
On a H/P desktop computer (AMD Athlon II X4 processor) running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Edition:
1.) Install an older version of Apple QuickTime: QuickTime Version 7.6 (1292), Copyright 1991-2008, Apple Inc.

(Personally— I removed iTunes from my work computer… don’t want to mess with auto-updates for QuickTime. (I just put iTunes on a netbook and do all my iTunes Store and iPod sync-ing from that machine.))
2.) From within ArcSoft MediaImpression, convert files from Kodak Zi8 to a format referred to as ‘Kodak Home Theatre’
3.) Open Vegas Movie Studio HD: version 9.0C (Build 30), Copyright 2009, Sony Creative Software. NOTE: This is not ‘trial version’ software… it is the retail “SONY Vegas Movie Studio HD”: version 9.0C (Build 30).
4.) Place the file(s) converted to ‘Kodak Home Theatre’ format onto timeline.Anyone, else, reading this post… if I’ve left out a spec. or detail that might help Romain, PLEASE contribute.

Hum, in ArcSoft Media Converter, I have “manufacturer = Kodak”, then “Device Model = Theater HD Player”.
We don’t have the same version, but the output is in theory the same: mp4, 30fps.The problem I am facing now is that Sony vegas is crashing. I found several topics on forums about large RAM required, but in theory, everything is all right on my hardware.
I really appreciated Sony Vegas Movie Studio, but I have to give it up as I can’t load HD .mp4 and produce any movie with synched audio/video, and it seems that we are quite a lot in this case: https://www.amazon.com/review/R1GVQW0352HDGM/?tag=omgirevi-20
I spent my week-end on it. If a solution comes up, I am interested to know.
