After installing the newest update, 6.02, it’s been nothing but crashes. I thought maybe it was due to the project I was working on, which was a 45 minute training video with a high number of video and footage files; yet upon opening a different project today, its the same results. I don’t know what they’ve done on this update to cause such abundance in crashes, but it’s nearly unworkable in these conditions.
Since the 6.02 upgrade, I’ve reinstalled (the most recent versions) of AJA Kona 3, trashed all the preferences and restarted the computer numerous times. Heck, it was even off overnight. However, within a few minutes of opening up a project, the inevitable “We’re sorry, but Adobe Premiere Pro has crashed….)
I’ve tried numerous scenarios, such as having Pr the only program open, restarting, trashing prefs, googling common problems/fixes, etc; all of which generate the same outcome. Crash. I believe I’ve narrowed it down to audio files (all my audio is transcoded to wav 48kHz –footage is either native AVC-Intra or (Pre-rendered from AE) ProRes 422/444. All FX/graphics/lower thirds/color correction/etc are done in AE, rendered out and imported in to Pr, with only transitions used. Granted, this generally ends being on average 5 video tracks and 8-12 audio tracks (voice, nats, soundfx, music…), so I like to have Pr as an editor and not rely on heavy processing–or more than is needed. All plugins are current and up to date, and the graphics card drivers are current as well.
I realize there are many variables that could contribute to this, as we all have different machines, software and workflow. My question is why was something that was working perfectly (well, it was working in a manner that didn’t crash), once upgraded to a patch that supposedly fixed problems, ended up creating them?? Personally, I’d highly recommend to others (at least on Mac’s) NOT to upgrade to 6.02 if it’s working. Crashes are not fun, even if Adobe does a great job at saving the project before the crash 🙂 And, in all seriousness, Pr has been a godsend since the FCPx debacle, so hats off to them!

sometimes fixing one thing breaks another.

there was a recent update to Audition that broke the broadcast limiter.

since my I.T. support days I NEVER upgrade
to the latest/greatest until somebody else can
    demonstrate stability.

I would almost bet Adobe will address the issue internally
(fix the 6.02) or release 6.03 with fixes to 6.02

I had similar issues, although not total crashes. Eventually by trashing preference and cache files etc etc I got CS6.02 to a functional state except for the timeline not responding instantly to play and stop.

Last night I uninstalled Premiere Pro and then re-installed CS6 from Creative Cloud. I then downloaded CS6.01 update manually from Adobe and re-installed.
I now have a fully functioning Premiere Pro CS6.01 again.

From looking around forums 6.02 seems to be a very flakey update, good for some but not good for others.

I’m hoping the above post plus the other peoples postings will put Adobe in high gear over this. They are a great company and I’m thrilled with their products overall, so I’ve nothing really bad to say except “help!” 🙂 And you are correct–good for some and not for others. Weird… Anyway, here’s hoping Adobe sees this and gets their peeps in fix-it mode! 🙂

Have you tried creating a NEW sequence in 6.02 and copying/pasting the old sequence (thats crashing) into it? I had some issues with a sequence done in 6.0 and pasting it into a new sequence cleared all problems up.

Honestly, I did not try that. But it sounds worth a shot. Crazier things have resolved smaller issues 🙂 Thanks for the tip

Well, that didn’t work….LOL Boom! New sequence created, dropped a clip on the timeline, and….”we’re sorry, but Adobe Pr has encountered the most terrible issue and we must go away now. We’ll do what we can to save you project, and we recommend you grab another shot. This will happen again, and we think you should be making a drinking game out of it. You’ll be smashed within an hour.” ~Okay, maybe it doesn’t say all that, but….:)
