Hey Avid Users! I’ve trained myself on Final Cut Pro Since 1999, And I am making my first transition into avid. Im learning by Cutting shorts I’m Filing and such but my two questions are….

    1. How Well Does Avid handle h.264 files?

    2. Final Cut Pro is to Proress, Proess (HQ, and Proress (LT) and Avid MC is to _______?

Thanks for your time. Im looking forward to learning.

    I wear many hats.

    1. You can read it via AMA, but you’ll do best to transcode it. Which answers question 02:

    2. DNxHD. It’s Avid’s ProRes (actually, Avid had DNxHD for years before ProRes). There are varying levels of DNxHD, like DNxHD36, 115, 175, 220, 220x, etc… The numbers denote the bit rate. If it has an x it means it’s 10-bit. They’re limited to HD only, no 2K+ and no SD. But they all recognize alpha channels, I believe.

Good luck with Avid. Learn the keyboard. Learn the keyboard. Learn the keyboard.

They’re installed when you install MC but you can also download them from the Avid site.

Since I just referenced this link on a different post I’ll share it with you too. It is a Avid PDF with all types of info on DNxHD to get you up to speed. Good luck. https://www.avid.com/static/resources/US/documents/dnxhd.pdf
