2 media drives?
I just came across this performance optimization article from Adobe:

I’ve always just pointed everything to my single external RAID like I do for my FCP source and render files. Does anyone use a separate drive for render files?

Actually, RAID only addresses the speed of the spinning disks—not the capacity of the bus.
Yes, if you’re working with lots of big files, it’s best to have reads from source media and writes to export files going to separate drive controllers.
It’s not a disaster if you can’t set this up, but it is a way to get some extra performance for heavy-duty work.
