I’m in pre-production stages of a student film…I think I’d like to raise funds to buy a DVX-100, but I have a couple questions about it first.
First: Is the camera actually capable of recording in HD onto a DVCPro tape?…or is the only way to record in HD format by using the P2 cards?

Second: What would it be like to try to edit a 60 minute film shot in HD on my IMac G5 with 2 gigs of ram? Would it be next to impossible?…or not so bad?

    Thanks.

The DVX-100 does not record in HD. You might be thinking of the HVX-200 (ours just arrived today!) That unit has a mini-DV tape mechanism for recording SD material. All HD material is captured onto the P2 Cards.

RAM is one issue, processor speed is another, as well as your editing software. What’s your software call for to editing in HD? Do you have that on your machine?

    Good luck,

    Right…my mistake.
I’ll switch over to the forum that I should have posted this in.
    Thanks.
