2 computers at 1 EXH

I was wandering if it is possible to connect two computers(1 laptop & 1 macpro) on the same EHD(iomega) with firewire800.
Probably yes…Im using one computer for rendering(its a 3d project & AE). All the files will be on the same place where my project files are and where i will be working on my other comp.
Is this save? Does anyone do this or did it before?Im just asking out of curiosity.
I dont wont that the EXH crahes tomorrow(im buying a laptop tomorrow morning)(i could have posted this some place else, but i gess most editors know this kind of things)

Two computers cannot access the same firewire drive at the same time…not when you connect them both to the drive. The only way to share the volume would be to connect the computers via the Ethernet ports and have one of them SHARING the drive.

You probably don’t even need a cross over cable. I believe the Macs are self adjusting.
However, if you are hooking up the two computers via ethernet but with out a router or something that will do DHCP (assigns IP addresses) then you have to manually assign an IP address to each computer. Gets abit involved.
