I’m basically new to the editing process. I recently shot a wedding video for a family member. I used 2 cameras. one was HD the other not. They were both Consumer type cameras. When I went to capture/Import the raw footage, the standard was ok..the HD was large and wasnt smooth..as like choppy (stop and go). Is there a way to get to work together??

You might want to include what model/format each camera is, what software you’re running, and the specs of your editing computer.

Assuming you’re using some flavor of Premiere Pro: in your timeline, you’d likely need to scale down the HD footage using Motion under the Effects Controls tab when the clip is selected.

Did you render the footage? If you see a red bar above a clip in the timeline, it needs to be rendered to play back a preview smoothly. You can do this by hitting enter or going to Sequence>Render Work Area.

I apologize if I’m being too basic/not basic enough.

[Micah McDowell] “in your timeline, you’d likely need to scale down the HD footage using Motion under the Effects Controls tab when the clip is selected.”

“Scale to frame size” works. Right-clock on the clip in the timeline.

You can also capture the HD tape as DV if you switch the camera to DV output during capture. It will be widescreen, so I hope the DV footage of the DV camera will be also widescreen. If not set your project to 4:3. The DV footage of the HD camera will be cut off left an right.

    Good luck

You can use the multicam option (read the help for this)
I prefer the “Razor tool” method:
Put the video of camera 1 on track 1 and from camera 2 on track 2 above the video on track 1.
Look for a synchronization point in the sound track and put a mark in the soundtrack of both video’s.
By moving one of the tracks you can put the marks above each other.
Expand the timeline to max to put the marks in the exact positions.

By cutting out, with the razor, certain parts of video track 2 you make the switch between track 1 and 2.

    Good luck
