Lag? It depends what you mean by lag. You can certainly edit ProRes files without issue. H.264 to some extent but that will stress an Air depending on what you’re doing.
Rendering many effects and some titles not great on Air (very slow) given the lack of independent GPU.
I know a number of people who take MBA out into the field for simple editing though.That’s why it depends on what you do. As Bob notes, a MaMini can work too but it can be slowed in some cases given the lack of independent GPU.

Yes, I’ve bought my last two from there and hopefully will pickup another 17″ i7 this year before they are completely gone for good from the Apple Refurb Store. As Craig said, you do want the Quad i7. Mine has been great with FCPX. Also, you can get 16GB of RAM fairly inexpensively at MacSales.com. Max out the RAM if you can.
