November 6, 2008 at 2:36 am[Jamie Pickell] “Nat Geo Channel has a list of cameras that qualify as A Cameras and they all have 2/3″ chips. Even the EX3 that has a 2/3” chip has to get special permission to be used as an A Camera and even then it has to be shot at 50MB/sec.
“Yeah, we had someone at Nat Geo tell our Producer that the Panasonic Varicam would not be accepted as a primary camera. When I told my Panasonic Rep, they called someone there to remind them that multiple shows at Nat Geo are shot with that camera and the HVX-900. That REALLY made us laugh.
We’ve worked primarily with Varicam and HVX-900 footage for the past four years, but the Z1U and now the EX-1 / EX-3 are making big in-roads in the documentary and episodic HD work here.

November 6, 2008 at 5:28 pmAll this “HDV rejection” politics is arbitrary at best and
everyone who works in this industry knows it.A series I did for Outdoor Channel required less than 10% of the
show could be HDV.I’ve heard it myself and its ridiculous. If it looks great, it looks great.
