17″ MacBook Pro released today
Posted by Walter Biscardi on April 24, 2006 at 1:07 pmLooks really nice, no FW 800 port though. Really not sure why they would drop that especially when they show it specifically with FCP running in the ad.

April 24, 2006 at 1:21 pmIt’s listed in the complete specs…
“17-inch MacBook Pro
One FireWire 400 port at up to 400 Mbps
One FireWire 800 port at up to 800 Mbps
Three 480-Mbps USB 2.0 ports
ExpressCard/34 slot” -

April 24, 2006 at 1:22 pmWalter – speedy as ever, but the spec on the Apple store is for FW800 and a dual-layer 8x superdrive.
That pretty much answers all my complaints on the 15-inch, but I don’t want a laptop that big. Why not update the spec on the 15-inch? I guess they will when they’ve finished milking the early adopters….

Ah, well that’s good. I saw the main points on the ad and there was nothing there about FW800. Of course, this is all before my morning coffee! I’ll see you guys in the show in a few hours!

April 24, 2006 at 2:52 pmWell, I am sure there will be some who are thrilled with it but, I think 17″ is just too big for a true portable. The FW800 port does little for me as I think eSATA is a better option now.
Now, if they offered the Quadro 2500m then…

“But of course! Actually George, the 17 is really too big for me too, but the specs now fit, and I can’t wait too much longer. Let’s see how it deals with some 10-bit uncompressed!
