guys still fairly new to FCp, so excuse my simple question. I have a 16×9 anamorphic sequence in FCP but when i export the clip it is the wrong aspect ratio…. am using the same setting as sequence. Do i have to do anything else when exporting

    Cheers

Yes, make sure the output dimensions are in a 16:9 ratio.
So for PAL widescreen from PAL anamorphic use 1024 x 576 or a factor. I tend to do this afterwards in QT
Of course if you are outputting to tape or DVD, you don’t need to do this, keep it anamorphic.

Oh and I know somebody is going to say a true PAL widescreen frame is 1050 pixels wide, but it is a Sunday morning 🙂

    I wasn’t going to say that. Well…

If you’re exporting a movie to play in QT player, just change the video properties in QTP for the file, setting the dimensions as Pete said for PAL.

If you want to use it back in FCP, you need to open it in the viewer and Apple+9 it and tick the anamorphic box in the item properties. Then, when it’s put in a timeline it’ll be the correct aspect. I don’t think (and I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong) that QT files have an ‘anamorphic’ flag embedded in them, so you have to do this every time you reimport. Be nice if it wasn’t so.

Big editing demo? That involve any third party devices? Such as EVS XStore or IPDirector? I’m guessing your edit whilst you’re ingesting thing will be involved (forgotten name).

Try to get over there, but may be snowed under with eager punters! LOL.

See you at GV if not.

It is mainly a show & tell because trying to set up a big demo, san etc is a bit complicated.
No EVS from me, everytime I even look at Clean Edit it locks out. Will be interesting to see
native files being edited in FCP at the show though.

I think the thing starts at 5:15, so if you can fight your way out of the car park then come along.
No booing from the back either!

EVS are promising an area demo-ing (what I assume) is FCP and AVID workflows. If it’s a quick transfer it’s got to be interesting, because EVS networks are everywhere on sports OBs and because they’re so reliable as a means of aquiring the feed – then playing the edit back.

Check it out. And no – I wouldn’t touch clean edit with a big stick. That’s what IP director is supposed to avoid.

    See you there.
