I was working on a DVD project, and I vaguely remember coming across some issues of using 16×9 menus on a 4×3 screen. The problem was that DVD players sometimes messed up overlay graphics for menu selections.

Does anybody know what the current issue is on that? Is it better to do 4×3 menus for overlay graphics?

    Thanks,
    Russ

If my videos are 16:9 I use 16:9 menus, 4:3 menus on a WS TV look stupid to me. There is a way to create 2 versions and then you tell which menu to go to based on the DVD Players setting for TV type.

The only time I have seen an overlay problem is when I use a motion menu that was not flagged for 16:9 on encode and then I make it 16:9 Letterbox or Pan and Scan within DVDSP. if I reencode the menu video correctly this problem goes away.
