    i am cutting a sopt on final cut pro 5… and need to create 16X9 black bars which give the widescreen look, i need to create them in PS, anyone ever do this and if so how wide were the bars?

    Just add the FCP Widescreen Filter

    Effects > Video Filters > Matte > Widescreen

    to any image in FCP.

    Export that “cropped” image into Photoshop and MATCH it as your “template” for making the crop bars in Photoshop.

    You could also do this in After Effects. I find it much easier and it’ll also take care of the ascpect ratio conversion for you (square vs non square pixels).
