16mm Film: Stablizing, Dirt & Scratch Removal Software
Hello,
I’ve finished editing my 16mm black and white film on final cut pro. I’ve uploaded two photos of the film here.

I was wondering if there is any software that I could use to remove it. I know of Film Fix in Adobe After Effects 7.0. Is there any other, perhaps better software, or is Film Fix the way to go? Would it solve my problem?
The line runs more or less continuously for seven minutes. My film also flickers and has some dust her and there.Thanks

If film fix is half as good as the repaired pictures on their website, I see no reason to look farther. Perhaps you could tell us why you believe it not acceptable compared to rotoring frame by frame with professional matte artists in AE?

Would leaving that defect in take away from the film? Sometimes leaving things like that in give it character. I say that ’cause the shots you uploaded look artistic. I love that dark, grainy, black and white look you’ve got going!

Hello,
The lines take away from the film. There is one vertical line that runs through parts of the film. I’d say it’s because it was run through the projector one times too many. I’ve heard that CC Wire Frame may help remove this, since it is a straight line and doesn’t curve from place to place. Perhaps there is certain software that can do this?
Has anyone had similar problems?

Hi,
Your lines (In case they are not moving in the X axis) should be easily removed using the “Effect>Keying>CC Simple Wire Removal” plug-in.
