I’m about to capture a large amount of footage that was shot on BetaSP in 16:9. The video will be going back to Beta, DVD, and VHS when the project is through. Is there any negative to capturing in 4:3 (I’d be using the Blackmagic NTSC 8-bit easy setup) then applying -33.33 for distort? Besides the render time?

I know that I can create an easy set-up with capture and sequence settings to 16:9 and edit in true 16:9 but is there any real reason to do that? What would I be gaining staying true 16:9?

I don’t anticipate having to output in true 16:9 as it would appear to have the same exact look as 4:3 with -33.33 distort. Only bringing up potential playback problems for people that don’t have a 16:9 TV option.

    Thanks in advance…

I would edit in 16×9 and then take the 16×9 sequence and move it into a 4×3 sequence. this will give you letterbox, with a much faster, or RT output to tape. And you will have the 16×9 if you need to go to dvd.
