16:9 monitor problem with Xpress 3.5
I’m using Xpress 3.5, a bit out of date I know, but it does the job. I’m using a Sony HDV 1080 and have been shooting at 4:3 with no problems at all. However, when shooting at 16:9 the footage on the composer monitor is blurred, especially when movement is taking place. This doesn’t seem to happen when the footage is played on the 4:3 monitor, although it is of course distorted.
I’ve burnt the footage to DVD and there does appear to be a lack of image quality, especially during movement.
I can’t see why the composer monitor aspect ratioi should make a difference, but it may be something which I’ve omitted to do, so can anyone offer any suggestions?

Look at the timeline to see what resolution mode you are working in – yellow/yellow (best performance), green/yellow (more performance), or green/green (best). You are trading off picture quality for performance with this setting. Depending on number of tracks, VFX, codec being used, you will need to plat with these. It may be that for some reason you are in yellow/yellow mode.

Thanks for your reply Michael. I’m not sure about changing the resolution – could you explain exactly how to do this?

Further developments. I’ve opened up some 4:3 footage and as I’ve said, it plays fine. However, if I change the composer monitor aspect to 16:9 the image (distorted), plays with the effect that I’ve described previously.
