I have a project that I am currently working on that was shot in 16:9 and then converted to MPEG4 files to edit. When I import the files into PPro and try to play them, they stutter horribly and when I drop them in the timeline it shows they need to be rendered. The clips are the complete iso tapes from the studio shoots so I’m thinking possibly it’s the size of the files (each about an hour) causing the hiccups.
I have tried all 4 default project settings (standard/ wide/ 32 and 48) and get the same results.
    I have a 3.2 AMD 64 machine with 1 gig of memory.
The footage was originally shot on BETA and transferred to an extrenal firewire drive for me.
The footage was then tranferred to a second SATA drive to edit since PPro hates the firewire drives.
Is this an issue of needing to upgrade the RAM on my system or is there something else I should do to get the footage to play back fluidly?

PPro does not like MPEG files.

Your machine specs sound fine and will handle DV avis just fine.
