    Hi,

I have a project my director shot HD 16:9 but framed for HD 4:3 – is there a way of setting up a 4:3 canvas size but dropping the 16:9 onto it without having FCP rescale (render etc) to fit?
i.e. my on my project the height of the footage i’m importing will remain the same but the width will go outside of the viewable area, and I can position it as I want…

Forgive my ignorance here but i’m going to use a photoshop analogy – In that you can chose your canvas size and import an image of any size and move it accordingly, then simply crop the cavas size as I want without affecting the size and scale of the image contained within. Can you do this in FCP (am using FCP 6).

    Many thanks

    Tim

I don’t know of any automatic way of doing this, but you can always just create a Favorite Motion of the the video zoomed in so it fits how you want it, and then just apply that favorite motion to all 16:9 clips.
