16:9 Anamorphic HELP!
I am editing a project that was shot on DV in widescreen (anamorphic not letter boxed) I captured in FCP with the DV Anamorphic setting. Also I am importing footage from a DVD movie that is letterboxed. I am using streamclip to import it.
Ultimately this is going out to the web and not back to tape.
So my questions are: 1) What settings in stream clip should I set to best match the DV anamorphic footage.
and 2) What settings (size etc) do I need to have in order to export to a quicktime file that ideally is not letterboxed.

1. the same settings as your time line
2. that depends on the aspect ratio of the video from the DVD, is it 16×9 or another form of wide screen.

I’m not sure if MPEG Streamclip is the place to do scaling. I think you’re going to have to rip the DVD footage as 4:3 and then blow it up in your sequence to match the 16:9 footage.
For output to web, you have various choices in square pixel format. In NTSC land you can do 720×400 (if you crop 5 lines off the vertical dimension) or 640×360. Use the 16:9 ratio to determine other possible sizes. Most codecs work best with frame dimensions that are divisible by 16. For best results, use both of those factors. If you get close, as in 720×405, crop off a few lines to get the divide-by-16 quality.

By the way, I’m using MPEG Streamclip to transcode some mpeg-1 files from an endoscope. The files are 320×240 and I’m letting MPSC change them into DV50 NTSC. The converted clips are beautiful. Plus, I can batch the conversions.
