I’m replacing my Meridian system, and I’m wondering if I can put the SCSI 160LVD external drives on another system. It’s an Avid XPress Pro with two external SCSI 320LVD drives (the 320’s would go on another system). Are there any data rate issue with using the 160’s on this newer system? This particular system handles MXF25 and 50 resolutions almost exclusively. It’s an HP8200 built to Avid specs.

I had pretty much this same question in September 2006 when I was trying to get my then boss to upgrade our Meridien to an XPress Pro 8200 system.

You can do it, but you’ll need the HP SCSI Expansion Kit. Here’s the info I was given on the Avid forums.

    Thanks Michael!

If I’m ever in your neck of the woods (I pass through occaisonally on my way to visit family in Louisville) I’ll buy YOU a steak dinner.
