  • 16 x 9 dv footage in iDVD 6 – Help!

I seem to be having this same problem. If exported my project from fcp to an anamorphic dv reference file. When I drag it in to iDVD 6 it only plays the video as a pillarbox. When I view the video in QT Player it’s shows as 4:3 squeezed, I don’t know if that’s supposed to look like that in QT Player. I for the life of me can’t get it to letterbox the video. I’ve even sent it through compressor and exported a 16×9 version of the video with the same results.

The seq is an anamorphic seq, so I don’t understand why it isn’t exporting it properly or if it’s iDVD that just doesn’t want to accept the format

I don’t really know what else to do. I have to get this video for a proof to a client this weekend. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

In QT player pro, you need to change the video track properties to anamorphic dimensions to view your file correctly. It’s in >window>show movie properties>(highlight video track)>visual settings>(alter scaled size). Change the horizontal size (get the correct figure by multiplying the height by 16 and dividing by 9!). Amazed how many people don’t know this one…

Don’t know about iDVD, but DVDSP requires you to specify that the menu and individual tracks are 4:3 or 16:9. Have you done that?

iDVD does not support anamorphic material, only native widescreen material.

You need Anamorphicizer or myDVDedit to fix this problem.

    Ah – thanks Tom.

If you have to use iDVD, export your project to quick time as normal, re-import it to the project, and apple+9 it to tick the anamorphic box. Then drop it into a 4:3 sequence to create an instant letterboxed version. Export that sequence as QT (should be a quick process) and use that letterboxed version in iDVD.
