1.5 tb Seagate Drives
Hey guys,
Does anyone know if the seagate 1.5 tb drives work in mac pros? Anyone set them up as an internal 3 drive array? Going to buy a new mac pro soon and configure the add-ons myself and these drives look good. 6tb’s of internal storage sounds dreamy.
For reference, the model number is: ST31500341AS

I am “virtually” certain that you are good to go with the ST31500341AS drives. At only $189 (Newegg will only let you have one however), even if they don’t work at least you wil have some very cool and inexpensive drives to show your friends.

These drives are bad. The web is filling up with posts all over the place about how the drives have a cache flush issue that pops up every few minutes and freezes them for 20-60 seconds. These are not usable in a final cut solution, obviously.
I’m sending them back via Amazon prime (I got four). They’ve already been replaced with 4 WD Caviar Blacks, which work like a charm. Seagate is ignoring the issue, and when they do acknowledge it, aren’t being very forthcoming with assistance. I assume they’re pretending it’s not happening because they want people to continue buying these drives until they can come up with a firmware fix.
Pretty disappointed in Seagate I must say. From now on it’s Hitachi or WD only for me.
