1400 VTR/Kona 3 in 60hz/25P land
Hello all,
We have had great results from our BMD HD Card/Mac dual/1200 VTR/Varicam over the past couple of years.
I am hearing great things about the 1400 VTR from Panasonic, Difficult to get a demo here in OZ, I know I can edit to it, what else does it offer in a 60HZ world. Is 72060P 25fps supported on output. Firewire??
If so Will Kona 3 see that HDSDI ( or firewire ) signal? I understand that there are new drivers for Kona 3.
In summary, will the 1400 make my Varicam more consumable to Post houses here in Aus than what the 1200 allows?? Will Kona 3 complement that deck?

The 1400 is a “true” editing deck. RS-422 controls for both playback and editing, frame accurate insert editing and a greatly improved from panel with shuttle controls and audio/video selections added.
We switched from the 1200A to the 1400 about two months ago and the ability to do insert editing has saved us a lot of time when it comes to mastering. All connections are exactly the same as the 1200a, except there are only 2 channels of analog audio input vs. 4 channels for the 1200a.

I have no doubts about the deck and your experience in 59.94 based recordings from Varicam on Kona 3. The growth of your facility since I began following the cinewave forum years ago is outstanding.
I am looking for 25P 72060P 60HZ based experiences of these two devices. ( Kona 3/1400 VTR )

that is one of the benefits of the Kona Card, the Kona drivers can see and handle the VFR via the flags in the RP188 TC stream that identifies the variable frames. The Kona’s do this is real time without the need for post processing in software as the BMD cards are want to do.

And just as an FYI to this deck, we have encountered Firewire layback issues from our Mac Pro desktop. Initially we thought it was the 1400 creating the problem and shipped the deck to Panasonic service in New Jersey. But now we have traced it back to the Mac Pro.
