    Im having a problem when working with 1280×720 resolution, at first i thought it was my footage but then i did a little test with a fractal noise;

I made the fractal noise via the ordinary black solid –> fractal noise way on a 1280×720 composition and made it do 1 evolution in 30 seconds.

I ram preview it and what happens? after 11-13 seconds it just stops and i cant ram preview any further (shouldnt my ram preview work the whole composition?)

Also with other footages it leaves weird frames in the middle of the comp behind, for example frame 10 was at frame 15 all of a sudden.

Back to the fractal noise –> When i go in my composition settings and i turn my 1280×720 composition into 640×480, everything works fine again.

I dont know much about this stuff, so im assuming its because of the different resolution, perhaps a different resolution brings other factors in play which i havent heard of.

Basicaly the question is, how can i solve this, since i cant use HD material without adobe AE acting all weird.

This may sound a bit blury and weird but thats because english isnt my native tongue and I’m not that familiar in AE, srry for that.

    Thx in advance, chocomel

One problem may be that your computer doesn’t have enough RAM to process all of the frames. RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and its what your RAM previews are stored in by AE. How much RAM does you computer have? If you are in Windows you can find out by right clicking ‘My Computer’ and selecting Properties. In the general tab it should say how much RAM you have. AE uses a maximum of 2GB of RAM on Windows 32bit

I’m no expert on HD either, but that kind of sounds like the reason behind your problem – at least with the fractal noise.

A RAM preview will preview no more than your RAM allows, even though you’ve set it to preview the entire composition. It sounds as you’ve run out of RAM. Check whatever your system uses (activity monitor or Task manager) to see how much RAM you’re using.

2GB is not much for comfortable HD work. Try at least 4 GB. My next box will have 8 GB.

You can preview more frames if you set the comp resolution to half, and the magnification to 50% (or 1/4 and 25%) and skip frames when creating the RAM preview.

    Check the help.

First READ THE MANUAL about RAM preview. Sorry but this is a noob question.

In the Comp window:Reduce the preview magnification, reduce the quality to 50%.

Use Shift RAM preview to preview every other frame. OR set the Shift RAM preview options to reduce the number of frames previewed.

Ah that explains alot, the reason i didnt think of my ram was because it never ever happened to me and sometimes even watched 1 minute , guess hdtv is a bit more consuming.
also the reason i didnt think of it was the weird bugs in frame misplacement but turns out that was caused by a wrong avs script.

    thx for the help!
