1280 x 1080?
Posted by David Erwin on November 12, 2008 at 3:57 pmI noticed the aspect ratio in Premiere’s preset for P2 Projects (DVCPROHD) is 1280 by 1080.
This caused some problems with exports which at to be redone at 1920 x 1080
Can someone explain the reason behind the preset dimenisions.

November 12, 2008 at 6:03 pmIt’s an anamorphic format, just like most HD formats.
It’s a matter of saving data on tape/card. You simply need to change the export settings to 1920×1080 and make the PAR square pixels.

November 12, 2008 at 6:47 pmI don’t think that you can save DVCProHD MXF back to a P2 card at full HD res…
There is no provision in that spec for full res DVCProHD, square pixel…

November 12, 2008 at 7:07 pmThat’s correct, you cannot save back to a P2 card unless you keep the P2 specs.

June 17, 2010 at 3:37 pmI also have a question about this.
When I play my dvchdpro footage on my macbook pro the ratio is correct, both with premiere and qt. It is also correct after I export my project to an h.264 qt file with qt compression. But when I send it over ftp to my client and he plays it, it is squished. Does anyone understand this? I usually try to export with the least amount of compressors or adjusting, but do you recommend always exporting DVCHD pro projects as 1920 x 1080 square?

June 17, 2010 at 11:57 pmHi Alex,
Yes, H.264 export should always be square (1920×1080) for 1080p, or 1280×720 for 720P. Otherwise, , media player will likely not automatically pick the right PAR.
