  • 1/2 Hour doc cut now need assistance with Automatic Duck or X27….

Well, I have to say that cutting a 1/2 hour drama doc on FCPX was a joy… the director was delighted with the speed and power and didn’t mind the 2 or 3 crashes a day…
Now the fun begins :-(… I need to get an OMF out and I have both Automatic Duck and X27 at my disposal… I haven’t done many tests yet but a quick try with both showed some issues… just wondering if I can get advice from those who have gone before before I attempt to sort it all myself????
It’s not a very elaborate cut dissolves, titles, bits of slowmo…

    Thanks in advance,
    Johnny

What issues have you noticed? I’ve literally just downloaded X27 to do exactly the same thing you are doing. My first test went well though

    Hi,

I did a little bit of testing with Automatic Duck and FCPx 10.01. Itried about 6 different sound configs (linked stereo, linked mono, a combination of both, then added detached and bits not related to video). I then imported them into Protools and none of the versions worked fully.

There are two issues apparently: one is OMF and the other is the version of Protools (which has to be higher than 8 if memory serves well). Automatic Duck recommends AAf exports over OMF.

There may be issues with FCPx 10.01 or now 02 since the AD plugs were made for 10.0.0

I got busy with other things and had to stop testing. will be interested in more feedback.

    Hope this helps.

I had a specific issue with Automatic Duck in which multi-track (i.e. more than a stereo/dual mono pair) audio failed to come through as expected when detached from its video source track.

[Jonathan White] “but noticed problems with slow-mo clip”

Since you are doing an OMF for audio post in Pro Tools, how are slomo clips affecting the process?

Makes sense. If you look at the “what doesn’t work” section of the X27 literature, the second item is: “Multiple speed changes in a clip and keyframed speed changes” so maybe that might pertain to you.

My suggestion would be to add the audio normally (without the speed change) and flag it for later.
