    good day!

i have a question regarding importing and redering in sony vegas. its not really a problem. i just want some clarification. 🙂

so i transfered a video from my camcorder with a raw resolution of 1120×630 to sony vegas. in project properties, i set my project size to 1270×720 for HD resolution. i kinda expected that i will have extra black spaces since my original video is short of 160×90 pixels. the thing is, vegas kinda fits my 1120×630 video to the 1280×720 regardless of maintaining aspect ratio or not. is this normal?

in the preview window, i still see a tiny black space around my video. this is when Maintain Aspect Ratio is checked. but when i render an ouput, the 1120×630 fits on 1270×720 perfectly with no black spaces around it.

i just wanna know vegas ignored the supposed black spaces.

    hoping for a reply. thanks!

“so i transfered a video from my camcorder with a raw resolution of 1120×630 to sony vegas.”

I’ve never heard of a resolution like that.
What kind of camcorder is it?

“he thing is, vegas kinda fits my 1120×630 video to the 1280×720 regardless of maintaining aspect ratio or not. is this normal?”

Vegas automatically stretches things to try and make them fit so yes, this is normal.

“but when i render an ouput, the 1120×630 fits on 1270×720 perfectly with no black spaces around it.

The “Stretch video to fill output frame size (so not letterbox)” option is most likely selected in the render options tab.

    hello Mike thanks for replying!

my camcorder is a Canon ZR930 consumer minidv camcorder. 1120×630 is the max resolution for widescreen.

The “Stretch video to fill output frame size (so not letterbox)” option is most likely selected in the render options tab.

I forgot to mention, this option is not selected during my rendering thats why im still confused. Selecting this should eliminate black spaces/bars right? So how come my rendered video already filled the black spaces/bars?

im rendering my video in WMV, btw.

“120×630 is the max resolution for widescreen.”

I’ve never heard of that resolution not can I find it in any of the templates in Vegas.

“im rendering my video in WMV, btw.”

That’s a square pixel format vs. the rectangular format of miniDV so that may account for what you’re seeing.

    Mike

I dont think it has something to do with square vs rectangular format because I created a wallpaper (JPG) with a 1120×630 size and imported it to vegas. It turned out the same. The rendered output video still stretched the wallpaper image.

About the 1120×630 (16:9), it is the highest camcorder resolution for recording. Canon ZR930.
