February 13, 2007 at 7:14 pmUncompressed HD? Sure FCP can handle it. Get a drive Raid that can play back that footage and you will be fine.
http://www.caldigit.com S2VR HD will do the job.

February 13, 2007 at 7:47 pmShane, thanks, but then what preset would I use? My Kona 3 card can handle 1080p/59.94, but the only 1080p I see in FCP is 24. I don’t even see 30p, let alone 1080p/59.94.
True, I don’t have the latest FCP. Maybe it has been added?
What I’m hoping to do is mosaic 720p/59.94-originated content on a 1920 x 1080 canvas and keep the 59.94 frame rate — thus ending up with 1080p/59.94. I know that’s an odd format and it’s not easy to figure out how to play it back, but I thought I’d give it a shot. Thanks. –Fred

February 13, 2007 at 8:01 pmHuh…I just noticed that the easy Setups don’t offer a 1080i59.94 setting. I suppose you could duplicate one of the 23.98 settings and change the frame rate to 59.94.
Mosiac? You mean, tile the footage?

February 13, 2007 at 8:11 pmOK I will try that. Yes, I’d like to cut and paste pieces of the 720p video to fill the 1080p canvas without scaling up the 720p. — Fred

1080p60 is over 500 MBps!!! — you are correct that nothing can really handle it.
on the default setups sent with the Kona card Psf is supported up to 30fpsyou can to go to the aja web site and DL the “Additional Setups” for the Kona 3 to get the easy setup for 1080 60p(sf)
Since you do not say what you want this for, my guess is that you should think about 1080 30psf which will playback on most systems.
There is a difference in 1080 post handling true progressive vs Sony’s Psf format, and I am going to guess that you do not have the driver that will handle 1080 “as progressive” as it is not currently available.

February 13, 2007 at 10:22 pmWow…I didn’t realize that. Well then, there is a reason we deliver 1080p23.98 masters then.

Technically you deliver PsF.
There is a lot of confusion on this, the default Sony format is Psf –This progressive segmented frame is captured as a progressive image- and handled that way in post but plays back on a monitor 2x the frame rate. There are very few cameras that capture “true” progressive – I had to borrow a Phantom HD camera to get the footage. I can also get true “P” files from a DPX sequence but not from tape in camera.
SRW and D-5 can do this on an outboard capture but only after much digging thru multiple menus and only with the highest end cameras like Viper and Genesis, Vision Researchs’s Phantom and the Arri D20.
I am not sure if SI does it and Red is not out yet, but I would assume that it could be available in both of them for the hollywood market.gary adcock
