October 28, 2010 at 7:04 pmJeremy, is there any way to conform this back to 23.98? Would duplicating the original file and opening it in Cinema Tools, then choosing conform to 23.98 work? Or would you maybe Reverse Telecine?
Is it possible to remove the pulldown from the 1080i29.97 clip, thus go backwards to 23.98 Progressive file? Would the clips speed be changed? Would the audio playback be at normal speed as well?
I’d like to be able to use this in a 1080 progressive sequence at 23.98.

October 28, 2010 at 7:11 pmNot sure what you mean by that. There are some supers/text elements, a few digital signs comp’d in using AE and some architectural 3D cad drawings as well but for the most part its all live action.
All I have is the finished piece. Would it be wise to maybe ask the edit house to send me the progressive edit before they’ve added in the pulldown?

See this is where I was going with that. Were those done @ 24p originally? If you go to those sections, do you see 3:2 pulldown?

If it’s available. My hunch is that they had to incorporate some 30p or 60i stuff (like the motion graphics/CAD stuff).
Compressor will do a reverse telecine, and so will Cinema Tools, but if the cadence is busted, Cinema Tools won’t handle it will. COmpressor can, though.

October 28, 2010 at 7:26 pmThanks man. I’ll try everything I can.
The CAD sections have no interlacing. stepping through frame by frame looks very clean. however the sections with CAD drawings and live action comp’d together have pulldown.
I’ll see what I can do and maybe I can get the original file.
thanks man, you’re always a huge help.

See, that might be 30p which is what I would expect.
[Matt Campbell] “however the sections with CAD drawings and live action comp’d together have pulldown.”
You mean like picture in picture? is the pulldown apparent across the whole frame, or just the live action?
Let’s try it and see what happens, you can use a short part of the video (like a part with graphics/CAD).
Take the file in to Compressor and choose Reverse telecine from the frame controls > deinterlace section.
Make sure to set audio to pass through, frame rate to 23.976, and frame size to 100% of source.

October 28, 2010 at 7:35 pmNo not PIP, but live action in the foreground and the CAD in the background. Live action has sky removal and CAD drawing shows new buildings in place of sky. But I think its 30p too cause it looks clean.
I’ll try compressor reverse tele and see what happens. thx

An important step is to make sure that Compressor sees your prig file as upper first. Once you bring in to compressor, then single click on the thumbnail to bring up a/v attributes. Make sure the field dom is set to upper first.

October 28, 2010 at 7:40 pmgot it. and under encoder, video settings the only option is 24. should i set a custom to 23.976? or just leave it alone.
