June 9, 2009 at 10:37 pmMake sure your preview lenght is not too long. AE will try and load all the audio for your timeline into ram. Just preview 10 or 20sec and see if it loads.
Also try previewing at Half or Quarter res, this will mean less data to load into ram.

June 9, 2009 at 11:01 pmDave, you can get 1080p out of quite a few cameras these days!..Even a consumer Canon AVCHD…images look pretty amazing on that one actually. Was amazed at the results.

Joseph, your machine will undoubtedly be equipped to deal with it. Have you made sure that the audio is actually switched on in your footage layer? There is a little Speaker icon next to where the visibility Eyeball usually is, in the layer switches, and if that isn’t on, the audio is disabled.
Also, try pressing the . key on your NUMERIC keypad – this previews only the audio. See if that is working. Another similar test is to hold down Command (Mac) or Ctrl (pc) and drag along the timeline, this ‘scrubs’ the audio in realtime, similar to Final Cut Pro or other editing software… it will sound garbled but at least you’ll know the audio is working overall, and that you haven’t accidentally turned your speakers off or something!

Yes, I have tried all of the above… I’m very familiar with AE, but this one has me stumped!
My speakers are on… I try the period key, the scrub… no audio!
Audio icons are all visible…

June 10, 2009 at 2:14 pmHi,
Can you see a waveform of your audio in the timeline?
Do you hear your audio when you play your mov file outside of AE?
Are you sure that your audio codec is compatible with AE?
Go to Edit>Preferences>Previews to check if your Audio Duration is set correctly, it may be set to 0:00:00:00
Hope this help.

June 10, 2009 at 5:59 pmdouble-check that audio preview is on… composition>preview>audio… ‘audio’ should have a check mark by it.

June 10, 2009 at 9:08 pmYes, it is XDCAM codec… is that the problem? I have checked all other suggestions and nothing is wrong there
