I’m wondering if anyone on the Kona forum can help me out. I posted a rather panicky plea for help in the Apple Color forum regarding monitor calibration (https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/223/11422), and nobody seems to have an answer for a possibly Kona related phenomenon I’ve noticed when trying to calibrate my SD monitor.

I have a Kona3, connected to an Panasonic HD LCD and a Sony PVM-series SD CRT. Both are connected via SDI. I have the Kona board downconverting the HD playback from FCP to SD 525, for my SD monitor.

I have noticed that I get different color-bar responses between 720p and 1080p signals. For example, if I set FCP to play out 1080-colorbars at 1080p29.97, and downconvert to 525i29.97 thru the Kona board, and then calibrate my monitors to these bars (in blue-gun only mode), I can get the bars to line up. But if I do the exact same thing, but instead send out 720 color-bars out of FCP @ 720p mode, the bars no longer line up.

Is this some kind of inherent difference between 1080 HD and 720 HD? It’s kind of a pain to have to to constantly be recalibrating all my monitors every time I need to switch from 1080 to 720 (which is quite often).

    Thanks for any advice.
