1080i50 or 1080p25
Posted by Luke Hardiman on May 11, 2008 at 11:55 amI’m cutting a project shot in DVCPRO HD 25p. The materials have been supplied on P2.
Its been pulled into FCP as DVCPRO HD 50i. How can I convert the material to 25p?Thanks
Luke

May 11, 2008 at 12:52 pmIf have been recorded “P” don’t worry if have been downloaded “i”. Just change the field dominance to NONE in the browser. Then edit in a progressive time-line.

May 12, 2008 at 1:59 amYou should have DVCProHD 720p 25 easy set-up.
In fact DVCProHD 720i50 it doesn’t exist.Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1

May 12, 2008 at 10:00 pmThe DOP told me its shot at 1080p25, but FCP will only recognize 1080i50.

May 12, 2008 at 10:06 pmYes. In reality is 1080psf25 (1080p in an i wrapper). Simply import your media, change the field dominance of your clips to ‘none’ and change the field dominance of your sequence to none as well.

No worries. You understand it, right?

May 13, 2008 at 1:35 amHi jeremy
I think I’ve got it.
If it’s shot at 1080p25, its actually 1080 psf 25.
Its a touch confusing what psf is, but effectively to produce progressive frames at 25 fps, which my clients need, I just use 1080i50 clips, in a 1080i50 project, with the field dominance set to none.
Do I have to change the field dominance of the clips themselves or just the sequence?
Any idea why there isn’t a 1080p25 setting? Thanks again for your help

Yes you should. That way your sequence and clips will match and FCP will render things properly.

No. What’s weird is that FCP6 seems to natively support true p capture and playback, but it’s kind of convoluted on how you need to get there and it’s not marked very well, but the capability is there.
In your case, you need to tell FCP that your footage is psf and to render progressively.
