Well I never get that on my monitor! That guy would have to be moving really fast to see that interlacing, and I don’t think he is. I’m guessing it got captured as progressive or field reversed or something. Need to double check all settings and recapture with all this new info.

Well there’s the thing Brett – the artist is barely moving at any speed at all.

I’ve worked with other interlaced formats for years – 10 Bit Uncompressed, HD, DV etc – and I’ve never encountered this problem before. Even when I’ve digitised footage with the wrong field order it still plays ok in the viewer and the canvas. Even this footage plays fine when I digitise it in another format, it’s just ProRes that plays back like this.

I can see why some of the contributors to this thread were perhaps a little impatient with me, but I appreciate all the advice from everyone. I just found it hard to comprehend that this is normal.

I’ve continued digitising everything at ProRes LT and now I’m recompressing it using Media Manager – that way it all works fine. It’s a bit laborious, especially as I have 30 hours of footage, but I’m getting there.

    Many thanks to everyone,

    Steve.

    Sure thing!

    First, here’s my capture summary:

And here’s a link to where you can download a 5 second clip (valid for 7 days)

    Thanks very much.

Your footage is perfectly fine and normal. Anything you are seeing in FCP is because you are watching scaled footage on a progressive monitor. Your canvas window, what it is scaled to, 50%? Less?

You have nothing to worry about. Trust your external monitor, it is the only truth.

Thanks Jeremy, it’s been an education!
    All the best,
