We are shooting 1080i25P on a HVX202 (PAL).
What sequence setting should we be using in FCP to maintain the progressive frame.
All we seem to get is interlace.
My understanding is that the progressive frame insert the information into the fields of the 1080i packet to transport it. FCP then has to be smart enough to reconstitute that field information into a complete progressive frame.
We are attempting to then to output this to a SONY 46 inch X Series 1080 X 1920 Bravia via DVI out of a BlackMagic multibridge extreme without much luck.

We are running FCP Studio 6.0.1.

    Thanks for any help

I’m probably the wrong person to try to explain this, but…

All 1080 DVCPro codecs are interlaced. 25P, 30P and 24P are achieved by splitting the progressive frames into the appropriate fields within the interlaced video stream. For 25P you get 2 fields, with no movement between them, for each frame in a 25i video stream.

    Thanks Arnie for your response.

I understand that process, what I am interested in is the correct sequence to choose in FCP that will reconstruct the progressive frame for editing and then how that is played out progressively to a Sony client monitor, that is a progressive display. The BMD Multibridge DVI out should do that, but I have been advised by BMD that their DVI only supports 1080i. I understand AJA can do that, so I may have to abandon my MBE to achieve this. I suppose the issue is whether FCP after cutting progressively can display play out on the the fly in 1080i using the MBE. This project has to in P as is going out to film. We tend to do these projects at 25F and just pitch the sound, 24P gives us to many problems.

    Thanks.

It’s quite likely that your Bravia TV simply doesn’t support 1080P. 1080P is not an HD broadcast format, only 1080i or 720P. You might need to upgrade to a professional monitor to accurately view 1080P.

OTOH, Your Multibridge must have component out, and I’m willing to guess that your Bravia has component in, have you tried sending it picture that way?

Ive edited 25p in a 50i timeline and just turned off field order in the sequence settings, seemed to work fine.
